to disable sidebars in static pages, you can use the Pre-content field.

<!--noLeftSidebar--> will disable the leftsidebar
<!--noSidebar--> will disable all sidebar
You find Samples for Static pages in the hor. menue:
The footer havve 3 coloums. You can Enable/Disable each column in Manage Styles. You also can choose a category for each column there.
This template have an additional sidebar named TOP. You can assign this sidebar to a footer column in Configure Plugins.
